Europe’s most amazing castles

Scotland, Germany, France and Slovenia… A lot of beautiful castle are located in these counties. Looking at these pictures we can feel like in the old times for a while!

 

Sky-high peaks, splendor, wonderful views and a remains of bygone eras. These are fabled castles now, but it used to give home to the royal families, nobles and sometimes the whole country was ruled from a castle like this. Europe’s most beautiful castles attracts millions of visitors every year, every season.  These buildings take us back to a time when kings and queens, princes and princesses were the most important people in the world.

  1. Castle Predjama – Slovenia

Predjama is rather a knight’s castle, instead of a slanderous castle. Its specialty is that it was built into a rock wall. From the front there is the actual castle, but in the back there is a huge cave system in the rock. It’s hard to tell where the castle ends and where the cave begins. That beautiful building stands the vicissitudes since the 12th century.

  1. Castle Rochepot – France

The castle was built in the 13th century and has long hosted the royal family. During the revolution it almost completely destroyed.

  1. Castle Stalker – Scotland

The castle is a four-story tower house what is located in the west coast of Scotland. This place is a popular film location, more than one movie was recorded here, for example Monty Python and the Holy Grail or the Highlander. The Stalker name means Celtic hunter. The castle reached its current form in the 14th century.

  1. The Swallow’s Nest Castle – Ukraine

Ukraine’s most famous building which stands on the forty-meter-high cliff, the Aurora cliff. It was built between 1911 and 1912in a Neo-Gothic design by a Russian millionaire and a Baltic German oil millionaire.

  1. The Caste of La Cave – France

This castle wanted to be occupied during the Hundred Years’ War but it never succeeded.

  1. Castle Hohenzollern – Germany

The castle looks down from the 855 meters high mountain in southern Germany. Originally built in the 11th century but due to an attack it was almost completely destroyed in the 14th century.
